Goals

1.
Define a Swedish AI model in the form of a solid and comprehensible Swedish strategy.

2.
Contribute to the national debate in the area and encourage faster application of AI, for both companies and other Swedish organizations.

3.
Produce concise and factual reports focusing on practical solutions about the opportunities and challenges that the application of AI entails for industry and society. The focus should also be on ethics and regulations.

Background

In the race for artificial intelligence (AI), Sweden is trying to catch up to the rest of the world. A recent published report on AI by Sweden’s national innovation agency, Vinnova, along with research done by the WASP organization (a national research program working on AI and autonomous systems), have clearly shown that there are many factors hampering Sweden’s ability to take a leading global role in AI. Compared to other parts of the of the world, Sweden, as well as Europe in general, is far behind.

AI is already being used to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges and is being adopted by many businesses around the world. For Sweden to remain competitive, we need to work together and focus our efforts.

Through our “Swedish model” (also known as the “Nordic model”), we have found a unique way to combine open markets with long-term social responsibility in the aim of benefiting our entire society. Sweden is a small country, but we’ve been able to compete in a global market by turning our size to our advantage in the ways it encourages a culture of discussion, transparency and cooperation.

This Swedish model is the key, not just to how we can best catch up with the rest of the world, but also to forge our own unique way forward, and even overtake certain countries currently leading the AI race. We can, once again, find new ways that promote long-term benefits for both industry and society.
